Like us humans, even cats are susceptible to a particular list of food items. You need to be aware of those for keeping them cheerful with good health. Always keep an eye on the stuff they are picking up at other times when you aren’t feeding them. The food items to be avoided have been discussed here, along with reasons behind not using them.

Onions

Onion in any form, whether dehydrated, cooked, or powdered, must be excluded from your cat’s diet. Never offer them foods with the least hint of onion in it since it makes them anemic. Consumption of food products containing onion would lead to food poisoning in them. So, keep away onions and let them not bring tears to your as well as your cat’s eyes out of suffering.

Chives and Garlic

The flavor of chives may be delicious, but for your cat, it is injurious. Even the use of garlic has to be omitted in their food. These ingredients make them uncomfortable with a gastrointestinal disorder if consumed over a long period of time. Make sure to keep these items in locked cabinets to restrict your cat from reaching it.

Uncooked Eggs

Do not dare to leave uncooked eggs on your kitchen island or dining table. It is a great opportunity for your cat to lick or consume it accidentally and then fall ill. Salmonella and other parasites from raw eggs could catch them leading to the condition of inflamed pancreas or pancreatitis. Their natural tendency to eat raw fish or meat also imposes the same side-effects.

Alcohol

The effect of alcoholic beverages is as severe on cats as it is on human beings. More so, the cat’s anatomy being relatively smaller than that of us, gets affected faster. As research says, your cat can go to come just by taking in two teaspoonfuls of whisky, beer, or any other beverage with the slightest alcohol content. Let your kittens raise a toast to them with a woolly ball while you enjoy your drink.

Nothing as Hard as a Bone

There are chances for your cat to come across bones lying anywhere in the house if he or she has a dog companion. This and such other items that are too coarse for your cat’s teeth must be kept away. Or else, your cat could injure its intestinal tract and also get choked.

Artificial Sweetener

Consumption of artificial sweetener is harmful to you and your cat’s health. Xylitol, in particular, causes liver failure in cats, sending them to seizures. The toxicity of this product is very high for cats. Don’t forget to go through processed or packaged food ingredients and keep it at a safer distance if xylitol is present.

Chocolate

Don’t get moved by the fact of chocolate being good for your heart and share a bite with your cat. The presence of theobromine and caffeine can lead to a heart attack. Both the cardiovascular and nervous systems get affected by these stimulants that are highly toxic to them. Be careful enough to clear plates off chocolate cookie crumbles or leftovers. The intense sugar content of candies is harmful to your cat. It causes food poisoning in them and chokes the throat, thereby blocking the respiratory tract.

Grapes

Raisins, sultanas, and grapes result in kidney damage in cats. Fortunately, most cats have no affinity for consuming grapes. But, if yours is exceptional, then you have to discourage them from eating this fruit, even in a minute quantity.

Raw Dough

Yeast leads to gas formation in the cat’s intestinal tract, which can get severe. You need to stay alert since your cat loves the fermented smell of bread dough while this fermentation inflicts it with alcohol poisoning. Knead your dough away from your cat and hide the yeast container from its reach.

Milk Products

Milk is almost symbolic of cat food because they love its taste so much. But did you know that your cat lacks a lactose tolerant level? Even if we like to taste unhealthy foods despite knowing the ill-effects, what to speak of cats? Whether it is cheese, yogurt, or milk – cats fail to digest the simplest of dairy products. And the outcome is diarrhea or a serious stomach disorder.

As a caring parent to your cat, you must not give in to his or her cravings. Now that you are well-informed about what to exclude from your cat’s diet stay rest assured of its longevity. Better keep them at bay from eating anything toxic than visiting the vet.
